CAES IT FAQ  
  • Email Troubles
    • If you have troubles with Lotus Notes try the following troubleshooting steps:
      • Close Lotus Notes.
        Run the Kill Notes program at \\deploy1\install\notes\Killnotes.exe.
        Update the topology.
        Right click on the gold VPN key and select Settings.
        Right click on 204.134.220.2 and select Update Site.
        Enter your userid pin and token code at the prompt. This update is very fast.
        Hover your mouse over the gold VPN key, it should say Security Policy: Personalized.
        Open Lotus Notes again.
  • High Performance Computing (HPC)
    • General
      • For HPC information visit http://hpcweb.inel.gov
        To connect to HPC use SSH to get to the HPCLOGIN.
  • Landesk Gateway Instructions
    • If you encounter problems
      • Click Start -> Run and type C:\Program Files\LanDesk\LDClient\BrokerConfig.exe in the command line.
        Select the Gateway Information tab.
        Make sure that Connect Using the Management Gateway is selected then click Update.
        Click on the Certificate Request tab.
        Enter your username and password (do not add INEL-NT\ to the beginning of it).
        Click Send. You will receive a message that says you have successfully received the certificate.
        Try the update again.
    • Security Updates
      • To update your computer with the latest security patches, follow these instructions:
        Type https://ldblue.inel.gov or https://ldblue.inl.gov into your browsers address bar. Make sure that your VPN is disconnected.
        Click Upgrade LDBlue. This will install the Landesk Client.
        When the install is complete, click on Update Computer then select Update Computer.
  • Lanier Multi-Function Printers
    • Connecting and Printing
      • INL Employees can connect to these printers by clicking Start -> Run, then typing \\caesfs1 in the dialog box. Double click the printer you want to map to, then point the install to the \\caesfs1\public\printer drivers\oemsetup.inf file. Non-INL Employees will have to have these printers setup by Field Services. Contact the Ops Center at 526-1000.
    • General
      • All of these printers can be found on \\caesfs1. There is a driver compatibility issue; when you double-click a printer to install it, it will report that it cannot be found. There is a folder in the Public directory called Printer Drivers. Point the install to the oemsetup.inf file, and the printer will work.
    • Scanning to a network drive
      • Press scanner
        Press Folder
        Press File Name / Type
        Select either PDF or TIF file type
        Press OK
        Press Manual Entry
        Next to Path, select Manual Entry
        Enter the destination as \\caesfs1\home\%userid% where %userid% is your windows login user id
        Press OK
        Next to User Name, select Manual Entry
        Enter your user id
        Press OK
        Next to Password, select Manual Entry
        Enter your password
        Press OK
        Press OK again
        Press Start
        This will scan the document to your network drive
        Press Copy when done to return the machine to copier mode
    • Scanning to email
      • Press Scanner
        Press Email
        Press File Name / Type
        Select either PDF or TIF file type
        Press OK
        Press Manual Entry
        Enter the desired email address
        Press OK
        Press Sender Name
        Press Default
        Press OK
        Press Start
        This will scan the document to your email
        Press Copy when done to return the machine to copier mode
  • Move In Process
    • General
      • CAES follows the same process as the other INL facilities. Contact your move coordinator to schedule moves or inquire on status.
  • Phone Directory Lookup
    • CAES Employees
      • You can also search for CAES employees by using Active Directory.
        Click Start -> Search -> For People.
        Click the down arrow, then select Active Directory.
        Search for a name or phone number.
        Active Directory will return names based on your criteria.
    • INL Phone Book
      • The INL phone book is available to everyone through Lotus Notes.
        Click the directory icon (it looks like a telephone) on the left-hand column of Lotus Notes.
  • Phone System and Voicemail Instructions
    • The red light on your phone means you have a voicemail waiting. To access the voicemail system:
      • Press the Msg/Inbox button.
        The system will prompt you for your extension. You can press # if you are at your own phone or enter your extension (i.e. 6-1234).
        The system will prompt you for your password. The default password is 000000#. It is recommended you change this immediately.
        The system will list all available commands.
  • Software Purchasing Instructions
    • General
      • INL employees should follow normal procurement procedures for non-standard software. Non-INL employees should contact your organizations IT department.
  • VPN Instructions
    • Connecting to the VPN
      • Ensure you have the newest VPN client installed from either LDBlue or \\deploy1\install\vpn.
        Check your VPN Settings.
        Right click on the gold VPN key in the system tray.
        Click Settings.
        Make sure TCP is selected then click Properties.
        Click the Advanced tab.
        The only thing that should be selected is Office Mode. Route all traffic through gateway will be checked and grayed out.
        Apply settings then exit.
        Double click the gold VPN key.
        Enter your userid, pin, and token code.
    • If the VPN become unresponsive (hangs or locks up)
      • Update the topology.
        Right click on the gold VPN key and select Settings.
        Right click on 204.134.220.2 and select Update Site.
        Enter your userid pin and token code at the prompt. This update is very fast.
        Hover your mouse over the gold VPN key, it should say Security Policy: Personalized.
        Try and connect again.
