Department of Energy Announces $5 Million in Student Scholarship and Fellowship Awards

The U.S. Department of Energy today announced over $5 million to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing nuclear science and engineering degrees.

The Energy Department is awarding 42 scholarships to undergraduate students and 33 fellowships to graduate students in engineering and science programs related to nuclear energy. Each scholarship student will receive $5,000 to help cover the cost of his or her education for the next year. Fellowship winners will receive $50,000 a year over the next three years to help pay for their graduate studies and research.

Scholarship recipients receive $5,000 toward the cost of their education. They are eligible to apply for the scholarship in subsequent years.

  • A Personal Career Goals essay identifying the applicant's long-term career goals and how the applicant's program of study/career goals align to the DOE-NE mission.
  • Three reference letters
  • Official college transcripts
  • ACT (code 6309) or SAT (code 5965) scores
