Biological Processing and Manufacturing
The bioloical processing and manufacturing research being performed at the Idaho National Laboratory is primarily focused on using microorganisms isolated from environments having abnormal chemical and/or physical conditions. Termed extremophiles, these unique organisms posses robust biochemical processes composed of specific enzymes and pathways that are being explored for commercial production of materials and chemicals. INL employs a workforce of highly trained scientists and engineers in modern laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. Our researchers collaborate with both university and industrial partners to address a variety of multidisciplinary projects directed at solving critical energy and national security problems.
