Wildland fire growing at Idaho National Laboratory

INL and Bureau of Land Management firefighters are battling a wildland fire that was reported at about 6:40 p.m. today at the U.S. Department of Energy's Idaho National Laboratory.

The fire, which appears to have begun near the East Butte south of Highway 20 on the southern side of the INL Site, has grown to several hundred acres. Law enforcement authorities have blocked U.S. Highway 20 to traffic on the eastern boundary of the INL Site, and at the junction of highways 20 and 26.

Wind speed is 18 mph in a northerly direction, and air temperature is 92 degrees Fahrenheit.

INL Communications continues to gather information about the incident. As soon as further details can be obtained and confirmed, information will be provided to the media.
