'Magic of Science' to highlight 2007 INL Science and Engineering Expo
Thousands of students are expected to learn more about the "magic" of science and technology at the seventh annual INL Science and Engineering Expo. Idaho National Laboratory is teaming up with the Museum of Idaho to bring the Expo to the former Ernst Building (1545 W. Broadway) from Sept. 20 to 22.
With the theme of "I Spy - The Magic of Science," the Expo will feature presentations by the Great "PHEOC" who uses magic to teach science to students. Another 30 demonstrations and interactive exhibits also will be set up to encourage young people to discover the "magical" concepts of science, mathematics, engineering and technology.
While geared toward students in grades six through eight, the Expo will offer a variety of activities and exhibits for learners of all ages. Student Days at the Expo are Sept. 20 and 21.
Family Day is Saturday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All activities are free, and the public is invited to visit the Expo's hands-on exhibits, interactive demonstrations, science experiments, simulations and presentations.
On Saturday, the Great PHEOC will take the main stage from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. "Amazing Animal Communication" - about how animals communicate without speaking - will be presented at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. The Discovery Center of Idaho will present "Harry Potter Science" at 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m.
