INL wildland fire grows to 2,000 acres, August 17

Firefighting crews at the U.S. Department of Energy's Idaho National Laboratory are battling a wildland fire Friday that has grown to 2,000 acres near the East Butte off Highway 20. The fire has drifted on and off the southeastern border of the INL site.

Bureau of Land Management firefighting crews are also at the scene of the fire. INL emergency organizations both onsite and in Idaho Falls are activated. State, county and tribal officials were notified.

INL's emergency Joint Information Center at the Engineering Research Office Building, 2525 Fremont Ave., Idaho Falls, is being activated to answer questions. Media should call (208) 526-9206, not your regular INL contacts. Employees and the public can call (208) 526-5042.
