'Going Above and Beyond' at INL Science, Engineering and Safety Expo

IDAHO FALLS — Thousands of students are expected to discover the wonders of science and technology at the ninth annual INL Science, Engineering and Safety Expo this weekend. Idaho National Laboratory is teaming up once again with the Museum of Idaho and the Post Register to bring the Expo to a new location at the Tautphaus Park Hockey Shelter Sept. 18 and 19.

With the theme of "Going Above and Beyond," the Expo will feature several "Science of Movie Impacts" presentations by Woody Sobey with the Discovery Center of Idaho. The event will also feature "Light Fantastic — The Science of Light, Color and Perception" minipresentations by Alana Jensen with S.M. Stoller.

This year's Expo also features The Leo on Wheels, an educational outreach program of The Leonardo, a major science, technology and art center scheduled to open in Salt Lake City. Additionally, more than 25 demonstrations and interactive exhibits will encourage young people to discover the wonders of science, math, engineering, technology and medicine.

While geared toward fifth- through eighth-grade students, the Expo offers a variety of activities and exhibits for learners of all ages. Student Day at the Expo is Friday, Sept. 18.

Family Day is Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Family Day activities are free, and the public is invited to visit the Expo's hands-on exhibits, interactive demonstrations, science experiments, simulations and presentations.
