Academic Visitors

INL’s Academic Visitors Program promotes an interactive culture between university faculty and researchers and lab scientists and engineers. Occasionally, INL research personnel identify needs for extended, on-site collaborations with university personnel that do not require payment of the visiting collaborator. The academic visitors program is a mechanism to provide badging and/or security plans to allow university personnel, with no existing funding or contracts with INL, to have access to INL facilities, as needed to support identified scope.

To become an academic visitor, university personnel must be sponsored by an INL employee or collaborator and undergo security badge training. Academic visitors cannot be paid by INL or work with a lab employee on projects where money is exchanged.

Academic visitors can participate in a variety of activities including, but not limited to:

  • Guest Lectures
  • Collaborating with INL researchers
  • Collaborating with INL researchers on projects funded by the University and INL jointly
  • Providing educational opportunities to INL staff
  • Mentor INL staff on new technology or academic research
  • Discussing topics of mutual interest
