The Department of Energy recognizes that in order for universities to conduct cutting-edge research and educate the next generation of nuclear scientists and engineers, they need the best equipment and infrastructure possible.
DOE funds three types of infrastructure grants through NEUP – major reactor upgrades, minor reactor equipment, and general scientific infrastructure.
The maximum amount awarded for a general equipment award is $1 million with anticipated awards to be in the $300,000 range. Universities can received up to $3 million for a research reactor upgrade. Awards in the reactor upgrade category will be split between larger awards ($1.5 million) and smaller awards ($200,000-$300,000 range).
