Laboratory Information Management System
The sheer volume of data accumulated by an analytical laboratory today makes keeping track of everything on paper almost impossible. Information must be logged electronically, and kept track of using specialized software systems.
The NMCD uses Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) software to log and track materials being worked on in any of its labs. LIMS is used to keep track of samples that come through the lab, report data, enter results, and analytical chemistry information. The information is logged using a user-friendly interface to a database. LIMS acts as an automated logbook, allowing chain-of-custody tracking and providing a repository for the analytical data collected. The information in LIMS can be used to generate reports of analytical data for the clients.
