About University Partnerships & Educational Outreach
INL is committed to being part of the solution to skilled workforce shortages and participating as thought leaders and working partners across the region, both key elements in being effective at meeting these needs of developing a continuous flow of new STEM workers to ensure sustainability, growth of the laboratory, and deployment of mission priorities. University Partnerships & Educational Outreach (UP&EO) programs provide students, teachers, and professors’ opportunities to learn how to solve real world problems under the tutelage of world-renowned scientific and technical experts.
Major program areas enabling UP&EO to accomplish its mission include:
- Collaboration with universities through academic exchange programs
- The development of a new energy workforce through support of technical colleges, universities, and graduate programs
- A robust internship program for high school through graduate students
- K-12 STEM education support
UP&EO also offers post-doctoral appointments which allow Ph.D. students the opportunity to gain hands-on laboratory, research and development experience before they enter the workforce.
