Matthew Anderson, M.S.

Matthew Anderson has more than 15 years of experience in robotics and intelligent systems design with an emphasis in embedded system control and human machine interfaces. Over the past five years, he has worked as the principal investigator for fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles with an emphasis in cooperative unmanned vehicle research and intelligent remote sensing.

Cal Christensen, M.S., P.E., P.M.P

Cal Christensen is a research engineer interested in Robotic and Automation systems with more than 20 years of experience. He graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, graduated from University of Idaho with a master's in Mechanical Engineering and did graduate work in intelligent controls at University of Idaho.

Michael L. Clark, M.S., P.E.

Michael L. Clark has more than 20 years of mechanical design, analysis, simulation, fabrication, system integration and testing experience. He has designed cryogenic fluid storage and distribution systems, mixed waste handling equipment, facility support equipment, automated analytical laboratory instrumentation, food preparation and analysis systems, alternative fuels infrastructure and bio-fuel feedstock preparation equipment.

Kevin Croft, M.S.

Kevin Croft is a mechanical engineer with more than 35 years of experience. Holding both Bachelor and Master of Mechanical Engineering degrees, he has worked as a nuclear facility test engineer, a plant systems engineer, a technical lead, and has designed remote and robotics equipment. He also served as a principal investigator developing waste remediation robotics technologies. He was the remote materials handling lead with the Yucca Mountain Project, designing and implementing remote operated equipment for the program. He is a designer of remote tooling and equipment being used inside hotcells for post irradiation examination for several of the Next Generation Nuclear Plant test trains.  Subsequent to the nuclear disaster at the Fukushima nuclear facilities in Japan, Kevin traveled to Japan, by request, due to his experience as a remote handling specialist and former Three Mile Island worker. He provided expertise and experience in the area of remote material handling and recovery.  His work with the Japanese, on the Fukushima crisis, continues.  He is currently the technical lead working with INL Nuclear Operations in the handling and dismantlement of eleven sodium bearing highly enriched uranium (HEU) experiments; the HEU is to be placed back into the United States inventory of these materials.

Robert Kinoshita, M.S.

Robert Kinoshita has spent his 18-year career at INL developing software for advanced chemical instrumentation, and more recently robots. His educational background in engineering, physics, and computer science is well suited to the varied needs of a multi-program laboratory.

Rodney M. Shurtliff

Rodney M. Shurtliff has been designing and developing microprocessor-based instrumentation and control systems for satellite, remote facility and laboratory applications for more than 35 years. For the past few years, he has worked as lead engineer over the controls, data management and integration of an automated waste package closure cell for the Yucca Mountain Project.  Currently, Rodney is the instrumentation, control, and electrical lead engineer over the Biomass Process Deomonstration Unit development.

Derek Wadsworth, M.S.

Derek Wadsworth manages INL's robotics and human systems department. He has served as a line manager for a Department of Energy program, overseeing its robotics and remote systems research and development in mixed waste operations and as the technical lead for INL's robotics mixed waste operation. He now heads INL's Unmanned Vehicle System program, which iteratively develops and experimentally assesses intelligent robot behavior and interface methods that can advance the readiness of intelligent robots to meet military user requirements.

Victor G. Walker, M.S.

Victor G. Walker specializes in artificial intelligence and adaptive control systems research. He has extensive experience working in industry with software and process automation in the U.S. and Scandinavia and he holds advanced degrees in intelligent computing systems.  He has worked on intelligent automation of mobile and adaptive robotic systems and continues to pursue research in resilient control system design and interaction methodologies with intelligent and adaptive systems.

Miles Walton

Miles Walton, a software engineer, is currently working with unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and operator control systems. His latest work on UGVs is in development of operator interfaces that allow an effective mix of operator-directed controls and autonomous vehicle action. He also is working on a team developing a system for automated radiation surveys of large outdoor areas using UGVs. He has authored several papers on autonomous robot operations, robotic control systems, and real-time control and monitoring systems.
